What is Sensory Informed Therapy?

Sensory-informed therapy refers to an approach that integrates sensory processing theory and techniques into therapeutic practices. It acknowledges that sensory experiences play a crucial role in how individuals perceive and respond to their environment, emotions, and behaviors. Therapists using sensory-informed techniques consider sensory sensitivities, preferences, and challenges to tailor interventions that support regulation, emotional processing, and overall well-being. This approach is particularly beneficial for individuals with sensory processing difficulties, autism spectrum disorders, trauma, and other sensory-related conditions.

What is Gestalt Language Processing?

Gestalt Language Processing (GLP) describes how some children learn language in whole phrases or "gestalts" rather than individual words.

Characteristics include:

-Memorizing and using entire phrases or scripts

-Often linked to echolalia (repeating words/phrases)

-May use phrases from songs, books, or TV shows

-Speech can have varied intonation, sounding song-like

-Can occur in both neurotypical and neurodivergent individuals

-Not always indicative of language delay

-Therapy is typically child-centered and connection-based
